PIONEER APARTMENTS - SHELTON HOUSING AGENCY

Kearney Housing Agency manages 19 units of Public Housing owned by Shelton Housing Agency, known as Pioneer Apartments. Pioneer Apartments was developed to provide affordable units for the elderly, 62 years old and older, near elderly, 50 years old and older, and persons with disabilities.

This is independent living. SHA does not provide medical or assistive services. The tenant is responsible for the unit and personal upkeep.

SHA provides laundry facilities and a community room on site. Lawn care and snow removal is provided as well. All utilities, except for phone and cable, are provided free of charge. SHA staff does unit maintenance and are on-call after hours and weekends for emergencies only.

Rent is based on either 30 percent of the adjusted gross income or a flat rent, whichever is lower, and is adjusted on an annual basis.
  Eligibility requirements:

Families will be determined eligible if they:

  • Are within income limits determined by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
  • Have a history of timely rent and utility payments.
  • Live harmoniously with neighbors.
  • Take care of the property inside and out.
  • Take pride in their home and neighborhood.

  Amenities:
  • Utilities, except for phone and cable, are included in the rent.
  • Kitchen with range and refrigerator and lots of cupboard space.
  • 24 hour on site free laundry facility.
  • Lawn care and snow removal provided.
  • Plenty of closet and storage space.
  • 24 hour emergency maintenance.
  • Qualification for the Nebraska Telephone Assistance Program.
  • Referrals to many other area helping agencies through the Family Self Sufficiency Staff.

  Other Services:

The Senior Handi-Bus comes to East View Court on a regular basis to take tenants to the grocery store, the Senior Citizen Center, and Kearney. Community resource agencies can provide to qualified persons: Chore Service, Meals on Wheels, Caregiver, etc.
